Bruland, K.W., Coale, K.H. and Mart, L., 1985. Analysis of seawater for dissolved cadmium, copper and lead: an intercomparison of voltammetric and atomic absorption methods. Mar. Chem., 17: 285--300. An intercomparison study of voltammetric and atomic absorption spectrometric methods for determining cadmium, lead and copper in seawater samples was conducted. The voltammetric approach utilizes differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry using a rotating, glassy carbon, mercury film electrode under condit ions developed to minimize contaminat ion sources and to enhance sensitivity for seawater matrices. The atomic absorption approach involves a concentration step using either an organic solvent extract ion of metal di thiocarbamate chelates or a C h e l e x 1 0 0 c o l u m n with detection by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. Similar and consistent results were obtained using both methods for the three trace metals studied on a wide range of natural seawater samples. Both methods are comparable in sensitivity for cadmium and copper, however the voltammetric method is better suited for the analysis of lead in seawater because of its enhanced sensitivity and low blank. An advantage of the voltammetric approach is its amenabil i ty towards real-time shipboard analysis.

Determination of lead and cadmium in water samples by cloud point extraction prior to flame atomic absorption spectrometry determination

Pb and Cd in water samples were determined by cloud point extraction (CPE) with sodiumdiethyldithiocarbamate (DDTC) as the chelating agent and octylphenoxypolyethanl (Triton X-114) asthe surfactant prior to flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) determination. The main factorsof affecting the extraction and detection processes were optimized. The preconcentration of 10 mL ofstandard soluti...

Survey of heavy metal (Copper, Iron, Lead, Cadmium, Zinc and Nickel) concentrations and their effects on the water quality of Anzali wetland

Anzali International wetland is one of the most valuable water resources as registered in Ramsar convention with an extent of about 150 km2 in the south Caspian Sea. This wetland, not only has ecological and biological importance for migratory birds and rare fish species, but also is used for farms to discharge into the Caspian Sea through this wetland. Therefore its pollution control is very ...

Evaluating the Arsenic, Cadmium, Lead, and Copper levels in certain imported tea samples consumed in Iran

Seven majorly consumed brands of several teas (A1, A2, M1, M2, S, D, and C teas) were selected for the present study. In this study, the heavy metal contents including copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), and lead (Pb) were assessed in the black tea samples consumed in Iran. The content of the heavy metals in the samples was analyzed using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). Notably, the ...

The concentration of Lead, Cadmium, Zinc and Copper in sediments of Ganduman wetland with geochemical indices

Sediments play an effective role in pollution control or water purification of the wetland ecosystem and record heavy metals contamination as an historical archive. Ganduman wetland is one of the top 10 birdwatching wetlands in Iran. This study aimed to to investigate the concentration of lead, cadmium, copper and zinc in Ganduman sediments. For this purpose, sediment samples were collected man...
